Original handwritten letter on Bush Radio headed paper from Christopher Stone, congratulating a radio listener on buying a Bush set.
Christopher Stone (1882–1965) was the BBC’s first regular presenter of gramophone records, from 1927, and is widely called Britain’s first disc jockey. In the 1930s and after the war he was closely tied to Bush Radio’s advertising. “Christopher Stone calling” was a Bush slogan, and letters of this kind on company paper were sent to new owners as a personal thank-you from the firm’s best-known voice.
This example was found with the 1952 Battery Services, Kettering, receipt and guarantee for a Bush AC11 sold to Mr D. C. Burbridge. It may have belonged to the same household, but the letter does not name the recipient in a way that proves the link, so the two are offered as found together, not as a confirmed pair. The radio itself is not included.
